Is your site ready for traffic?

By Rowdy, Adult NetSurprise

1 - Is your site ready for traffic?

A. Are your images all needed and if so, are they compressed?
A common mistake on the web is the thinking that if the site looks fancy, it will get more surfers to it. This is not the case the majority of the time! Leave the fancy stuff for the sites that you are promoting and let them use their bandwidth for it. Your website should be for the purpose to make money... not to impress others with your html or graphics skills. (Unless of course they are so unique that they are making extra sales... all general rules have their exceptions.)

Also make sure all your images are properly compressed! If not, they are just going to use extra bandwidth which of course will increase your overhead cost on the site. For those not familiar with the term compression, it means making the file size smaller off the image. If you need to learn more about this, please visit The Graphix Zone for more information on this and all your graphic needs.

B. Do you have your site laid out Search Engine Friendly?
There are plenty of things that makes your site more likely to do well in the Search Engines that you should always implement on every site/page that you build! Some examples of these are using meta tags, how you name the page and using alt tags (which contain your meta terms) on ALL of your images. The Search engine aspect can get quite involved although there is a place that is already set up to give you more information on this subject. Please visit The Search Engine Zone to find out more.

C. Is your site laid out correctly for the selling of porn instead the giving away of porn for free?
One of the biggest mistakes made when building sites is the fact that people get confused as to what they would want as a porn surfer versus what should be put on the site from the webmaster point of view. It is vital to remember that the surfer is your customer... not your friend that you want to just give porn away to. Use your content wisely.. by this I mean keep in mind that the free porn on your site is supposed to get the surfer wanting more porn and to get them to pay for it. It is not there for the surfers overall enjoyment! So, when designing your site, keep in mind that you want to get the surfer hot and bothered with no relief from your site other than the links to your sponsors. Keep your free content as soft as possible and as limited as what your traffic sources allow.

2 - How to filter your traffic

A. What is filtering?
Filtering is the technique used to separate the traffic according to what they are looking for which of course increases the ratio of sales. Such as, if someone is looking for amateurs and stumbles across your hardcore site, you want to get them over to an amateur site before they use up the bandwidth of your hardcore pictures since that isn't what they really want to begin with. This is often an overlooked part of your average site. By implementing traffic filtering, you should save your cost of bandwidth as well as increase your sales.

B. Filtering styles and examples
There are many different styles that are used for filtering traffic. It almost always will take some "tweaking" for each different site to achieve what you want. Some examples of this would be using your links page for listing of different style sites, adding a small menu to the site that leads to the sponsors of a particular style site or even adding sections to your site that include other styles or niches. (Sponsor free content can be very useful in these little mini sections. You can easily set up a page for a sponsor that has 3-5 of their pics on it to promote that niche. This way, the link will not count against you as a sponsor link as many lists only allow a certain amount of sponsor links directly off the submitted site.) Even a small menu on the index page that lists different things than what your site is centered around can help quite a bit in separating the traffic and routing it to the place it will do you the most good.

3 - Where to get the traffic and what type to get

A. Have you decided what type of traffic you want?
There are many different types of traffic that a site can pull in. All traffic varies to some degree or another but you still just have a "centered" approach when building the site. Such as center the site around the Search Engines although build it so that it will work for the linklits as well. Some of the different traffic sources available are Search Engines, Linklists, Toplists, Thumbnail gallery posts, picture posts as well as good old fashioned link trades with other sites.

B. How to find the places to get the traffic from.
One of the best places to start looking where to get your traffic from is The links Machine as you can use the advanced search feature and find many sites with different types of traffic to fit your sites needs. There are also many good resources such as Adult NetSurprise traffic generator lists that can provide you with multiple sites to get your traffic from. Also, keep your eyes open for new things and sites that are starting up such as Adults most visited as getting in on the start of some of these newer things can prove to be very beneficial as time goes on.

4 - Calculate the value of the traffic

A. In sales versus bandwidth used
Calculating the value of your traffic is a very important part of any successful site! All you need to do is create a "value chart" A value chart is nothing more than a page that show what bandwidth you have used that day or month versus the sales you have made. As long as your sales are more than your bandwidth costs... you're on the right track.. if not, then it's time to do some tweaking and make sure the images are compressed correctly as explain at the beginning of this article.

B. In click thru's on other links
Making sure that a surfer clicks where you want them to go if they don't buy something is another important part of a sites business plan. IF a surfer does not click on your sponsor links you want to lead them to where they will go next. It doesn't matter if you want to send them to another one of your sites or a toplists .. the site has to LEAD the surfer to the link that you want them to exit on. When you have these links in place, you should be able to get a general idea of how well they are working by comparing the amount of hits you got into the site with what left on your sponsors and then the other links. If you cannot account for the majority of the traffic that goes into the site.. it's time to rework the site again and make the path even more clearer for them.

5 - How to fully utilize your traffic

A. Making sales
OK, here's a big one to remember at ALL times ... the purpose of your site is to make money .. not impress your average horny surfer! I'm sure we all know this but sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a friendly reminder :) When laying out your site you want to attempt to get the surfer to click out to a sponsor BEFORE they get to any free content you might have. OF course you also want to sell to them in the content pages but the ones before that are the true money makers as if you can get a sale before they get to your content, the less overhead of bandwidth that you have and the more money in your pocket. So, with this in mind, make your text a real eye grabber on those first pages.. something that makes the surfer want to click in and check it out. Once they get to the content pages then you can start the blurbs along the lines of "this sponsor has full sized uncensored pics of much higher quality than those we offer" type thing.

Diversification with your sponsors and the type programs you are using is also an issue to be considered. Try to use a combination of per sign up payouts along with recurring as well as e-mail programs and dialers. (Another good list for these different types of sites can be located at The Adult NetSurprise Sponsor listings) Testing the performance of each on your sites will help dictate what you want to repeat in the future.

B. turning non buying traffic into an asset
Non buying traffic as an asset? I know you're thinking at this point that's one screwed up statement, but in reality, we all have non buying traffic or that unheard ratio of 1:1 would be achievable by us all. So, how do you use this traffic? The first thing that comes to mind is toplist use. This traffic can be funneled into a toplist that has a whole different site of yours getting the credit. An example of this could be an AVS site that you list at the toplist and then use the code given for referrals on the free sites (it's always wise to check with the toplist owner if this is acceptable to their rules) and funnel that non buying traffic into it. This way, the AVS site (which has no other recips on it or traffic leaks like that) gets the credit for the hits sent in thus raising the AVS site higher on the toplist and getting different traffic back into it. When doing this, make sure you find the correct toplist to use as some are better than others. The Places Pack has some very good lists as well as many more listings at the Adult NetSurprise Toplist listings area. Equally this non buying traffic can be used to launch a new type of site or be sent to your another one of your less friendly sites.

6 - How to stay organized.

A. Traffic trades and listings
In order to make tracking of all your sites and the linklists, toplists or other sources you use a bit easier it's best to make a few files that have the information stored for you. It doesn't really matter if you use an office type program that has all the fancy columns or just a plain txt file, either or will serve your purpose equally. Keep a record of each sites name, url, date of creation, places you submitted to and dates. (you can get pretty involved with this if you want and even include the sponsors used on that site or whatever) Once you build up a few sites, this will help you stay on top of things such as being listed somewhere that drops the listings every other month or something. Once you figure out the other sites schedules on things like that, you will be able to cross reference each site of when they were submitted and know it's time to do it again. At the very least, as you continue and build more sites, you will have a list of the sites that are already in operation.

B. Search engine listings
The same principle applies to this area as above. Keep a record of the sites name, date it was submitted and so forth. By combining these records with your stat reports, you will be able to figure out which Search Engines are listing your sites and how long it is taking them to do so. This way you have the option of using that information to figure out why you're not getting listed at some places or how to increase your rankings on the ones that are listing you. As you build more and more sites, these files can save you hours of extra work trying to figure out what sites you have and what is going on with them.

Please keep in mind this article is only a 'general" information source.
