How to Create Web Photo Galleries in Photoshop 6

by John Hilton, Adult NetSurprise

Photoshop 6 has some simple and powerful added functions. Here's how to create Web Photo Galleries entirely in Photoshop 6. During the batch process Photoshop will re-size your images, make thumbnails, create the image HTML pages, create the thumbnail HTML pages and add fully functional navigation arrows. This is all carried out at a more than adequate speed.

Before you generate your Photo Gallery it may be best to make a new folder on your drive for your Source file (you will need to paste your selected pics into this folder). You will definately need to make a new folder for your Thumbnails (where Photoshop will store the thumbnails and the HTML pages it creates).

Select :-

File >> Automate >> Web Photo Gallery

This brings up the Web Photo Gallery menu where you can choose which Style to use :- Simple, Horizontal Frame, Table or Vertical Frame. These provide the most popular layouts that you are likely to need.

On the Options pop-up menu select Gallery Images.

Here you can choose whether to Resize your Images (pics), a useful function should you wish to do so since Photoshop's batch re-sizing process is pretty fast!

Now choose the JPEG Quality, obviously the larger the file size the longer the download on the Internet.

On the Options pop-up menu select Gallery Thumbnails

Here you can choose whether or not to have a Filename caption and the Font/Font Size.

There is a choice of Thumbnail height sizes:- 50, 75 or 100 Pixels. You can also customize your own size. The file size of the 75 Pixel thumbnails averages 4.5KB each. This size looks good on the page and the quailty is perfectly adequate for a batch process.

On the Options pop-up menu select Custom Colors.

Here you can select your Background, Banner Color (The Banner is the background for the descriptive text for the gallery) and Text Links Color.

Click on the color blocks to bring up the Color Picker where you can choose the exact color you would like to use for your web site.

Once you are happy that everything is set up just how you want it click on OK and sit back while Photoshop does all the work for you and at a fast pace! If there's anything you are not happy with go back and alter the required options and click OK to start the batch process again.
