Creating Styles in Photoshop 6
by BarryHilton, Adult NetSurprise
In this tutorial we'll be looking at
creating several Effects in a group, then combining them into one Style that
can be applied to any of your images! Styles are saved in Photoshop as separate
files so you'll never have to remember all of the details of your favorite
effects ever again!!! Plus, after you've applied your Style, you can even edit
the Effects again too!
We'll start off by opening our new image...
Shot with Instructions.
Next, we'll be using a black background for
this tutorial so you'll need to paint your background black...
Shot with Instructions.
We're going to use an ellipse to create our
effects on... select the Elliptical Marquee Tool (You may need to click and
hold over the Marquee Icon to bring up the menu) and...
Shot with Instructions.
Deselect your Marquee and name your Layer...
Shot with Instructions.
Now, we'll start adding our Effects to our
Ellipse. NOTE: Don't Click OK to apply your Effect until we've added several
Effects to our Circle... Start off by adding a Bevel and Emboss...

Next, add a Color Overlay...
Shot with Instructions. By using a Color Overlay when creating our new
Style every time we apply this Style to a new Graphic it will automatically be
colored the Color of our Color Overlay. This also works the same for Gradient
Overlays too :o)
Add a Satin Effect...

And lastly add an Inner Glow...
Shot with Instructions. We'll be adding several more Effects to our Inner
Glow, like using the Contour to make a ridged appearance...
We need to
change Screen to Multiply because we've changed the color from a light shade to
a dark color... Click Here
to view Screen Shot with Instructions. This is because the Screen lightens
the color under it (with black being transparent) and the Multiply darkens the
color under it (with white being transparent).
Next, modify the Inner
Glow using a Contour to produce a Ridged Effect...
Shot with Instructions.
And enter these values to finish off our
Effect! Click Here to view
Screen Shot with Instructions.
Lastly, click the New Style button to
make your Effects into one Style file, then click OK to apply your effect to
your Ellipse... Click Here
to view Screen Shot with Instructions.
Go to the Window Drop Down
Menu and select 'Show Styles' you'll notice that your newly created Style is
shown at the bottom of the Styles menu! To apply your Style to a new image (or
working layer)... just click the Style!

Shot with Instructions.
