Working on Eyeshadow in Photoshop
by BarryHilton, Adult NetSurprise
Enhancing or adding yor
own eyeshadow to a photo can greatly alter the appearance giving completely
different looks, even with the same photo :) We'll start with our original
photo, below.

In our example, we will use the girl we made in our 'Eye
Color and Eye Whites' tutorial. This photoshop file has three layers, the
original girl (background layer), eye color and eye whites layers. This is our
starting point for our Eyeshadow tutorial...

First,
we'll do the eye lid Eye Shadow... To do this set the Lasso Marquee to 1
Feather... Next, select the orignial girl layer and draw the marquee around one
eye, starting in the corner by the nose draw in a semi-circle following the
line of the eye lid around the eye and along the bottom getting closer to the
eye itself nearing the nose.
Hold shift on your keyboard and draw around
the second eye, this will add to the selection. Press Ctrl+C to copy the
selection and then Ctrl+V to paste it to a new layer. This layer should be
above the original girl layer and below the eye color and eye whites
layers.
Using Hue/Saturation (Images > Adjust > Hue/Saturation),
tick the 'Colorize' box and adjust the shade of your eyeshadow. In our example
we want a dark brown color...

Now
we'll do our larger eyeshadow, around the eye and faded towards the eyebrows.
First we need to make our selection using the lasso marquee, only this time set
to a 3 pixel feather. This will create a blurring of the edges so they seem to
fade into her skin tone.
Select the original girl layer and draw the
marquee, again starting in the eye corner near the nose... Draw an egg shape,
following just below the eyebrow, around the side of the eye and along the
bottom, slightly below the actual eye, again getting closer to the eye as you
near the nose.
Hold shift on your keyboard and draw around the second
eye, this will add to the selection. Press Ctrl+C to copy the selection and
then Ctrl+V to paste it to a new layer. This layer should be above the original
girl layer and below the eye lid eyeshadow layer you made
previously.
Using Hue/Saturation (Images > Adjust >
Hue/Saturation), tick the 'Colorize' box and adjust the shade of your
eyeshadow. In our example we want a brown color, although this time we will
make this layer lighter than our eye lid eyeshadow.

Now we
need to make our eyeliner :) Select the original girl layer, then using the
lasso marquee layer set at one pixel feather... draw around the eye, along the
line of the eye lashes.
Hold shift on your keyboard and draw around the
second eye, this will add to the selection. Press Ctrl+C to copy the selection
and then Ctrl+V to paste it to a new layer. Using the layers menu, click and
drag this layer above both the two eyeshadow layers, but below the eye color
and eye white layers.
Using Hue/Saturation (Images > Adjust >
Hue/Saturation), tick the 'Colorize' box and adjust the shade of your
eyeshadow. In our example we want a very dark brown color, this time we will
make this layer much darker than our eye lid eyeshadow.
In our example
we then set this layer to 40% transparency, to give a dark line without being
too hard or brash.

Lastly, to give a more realistic look, we need
to correct our eyeshadow inside the eye lid... to do this, select the original
girl layer and use the lasso marquee, set at one pixel feather to draw inside
the eye, above the eyelashes.
Hold shift on your keyboard and draw
around the second eye lid, this will add to the selection. Press Ctrl+C to copy
the selection and then Ctrl+V to paste it to a new layer. Using the layers
menu, click and drag this layer above both the two eyeshadow layers and the eye
liner layer, but below the eye color and eye white layers.

Here is
our example, showing the original photo, eye color and eye whites adjustment
and our final photo... Experiment and have fun :o)
